It's official -- we're moving to Maryland

After months of preparation and consideration, Jason has received and accepted an offer from Bechtel to transfer to its corporate office in Frederick, Md., a town about 45 miles north of Washington, D.C. (and about 45 miles west of Baltimore).

With that, we're moving to the East Coast in late July or early August. Jason will become the Bechtel National, Inc., deputy Public Affairs manager on March 30 and will spend the next several months travelling to many of the 15 or so projects he will oversee across the U.S. The company will allow him to travel from and to Las Vegas for the next several months, so he'll be able to be home on weekends.

It will be a big change, but one that we've seen coming for a while. Bechtel is a company of projects, and people tend to move when the jobs are done. We've been in Las Vegas since Jason transferred here in early 2001 to work on the Yucca Mountain Project. Bechtel's role on that project ends on March 31, so it's time to move on.

The good news is that Jason's new assignment is a significant career move for him. And it sends us to a part of the country that we all really like, so we're looking forward to a new adventure together. The move is bittersweet in a way, as we recognize we'll miss close friends and family that live here in the West. We're already working on creative ways to stay in touch.

And, we'll be living in a part of the country -- the Washington, D.C. area -- that is great to visit. We hope that many friends and family will come visit us once we are there.
